One Ocean High-Level Symposium

New York, February 23, 2015: The One Ocean: Achieving Sustainability through Sanctuaries High-Level Symposium will take place at the United Nations on 5 March 2015.  The Event is being co-hosted by Commonwealth of The Bahamas, the State of Israel, the Italian Republic, the Republic of Palau, and the Delegation of the European Union to the United Nations, in collaboration with the Ocean Sanctuary Alliance, Global Partnerships Forum, and the Institute for Ocean Conservation Science.

This unique event will focus on the science and research relating to the protection of the world’s ocean, which can be accelerated by creating marine sanctuaries, and lead to responsible fishing practices.

The Ocean Sanctuary Alliance, a partnership of nations, scientists, and other stakeholders, is committed to the creation of a dedicated Sustainable Development Goal for ocean conservation.  The Alliance, along with the Global Partnerships Forum as a Strategic Partner, is working to mobilise a broad range of stakeholders to ensure biodiversity that leads to healthy ocean for our common humanity.

The United Nations produces a series of web videos on a wide range of topics, including a sustainable ocean.  A recent UN Story on "Saving the Pacific's Tuna" provides a great example of one of the issues that will be tackled by the experts in this important Symposium.
