Second International Conference on Nutrition
Rome, Italy, November 19-21: The Global Partnerships Forum is a proud supporter of the Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2), an inclusive inter-governmental meeting that will encourage international cooperation and collaboration as a way to address the global challenges of nutrition. The conference is co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) of the United Nations. The event is being held from 19-21 November 2014 at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy.
Mr. José Graziano da Silva, FAO Director-General, commented, "Why is ensuring food security and nutrition so important? The answer is very simple: while hunger and malnutrition remain, we will continue to witness immense suffering." (Event on Expo 2015, Milan)
At the ICN2, leaders will review progress made since the first conference, which was held in 1992, discuss lingering challenges, and review opportunities and technologies that currently exist which could improve nutrition and create food security globally. The conference will bring together multi-stakeholders from various backgrounds such as national policymakers, members of government agencies, senior UN officials, and members of civil society, including NGOs, academia and the private sector to create flexible policy frameworks to address today’s major nutrition challenges.
Dr. Margaret Chan, WHO Director-General, remarked, "The challenges at the policy intersection of agriculture, nutrition and health are already enormously complex. On current trends, this complexity will only grow. For all of these reasons, the coming International Conference on Nutrition will need to be a watershed event."
