Health and the Sustainable Development Goals: Leaving no one with Disability Behind

The Permanent Missions of Ecuador, Spain, and The Philippines co-hosted the World Health Organization (WHO) event, in collaboration with the Global Partnerships Forum and the International Disability Alliance. Ambassador Stuart Beck's Call to Action

Mr. Stuart Beck, Ambassador of Oceans and Seas for Palau expressed his deep gratitude to Member States for adopting a dedicated goal for Oceans and Seas and calls upon the International Community to re-double their efforts in creating sanctuaries around the world. POST 2014 Intergovernmental Negotiations Agree On The 2030 Agenda For Sustainable Development

Late on Sunday, August 2nd, 2015 Member-States, along with Co-Facilitators of the negotiations -- Ambassador David Donoghue of Ireland and Ambassador Macharia Kamau of Kenya, Mr. Wu Hongbo, Under-Secretary-General of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, and Ms. Amina Mohammed, the Secretary General’s Special Advisor for the Post-2015 Development Agenda, succeeded in completing a process years in the making. The Post-2015 Intergovernmental Negotiations achieved a consensus on the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

At the Financing for Development Conference, a four day conference in Ethiopia, the Special Representative of the Secretary General on Violence Against Children, Ms. Marta Santos Pais, along with the UNICEF Executive Director, Mr. Tony Lake, hosted an event to announce the creation of the Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children. The Associate Director for UNICEF’s Child Protection Programme, Ms. Susan Bissell, has been asked by Mr. Lake to lead the transition team to establish the global partnership to protect children from violence.

Fourth in the One Ocean Symposia Series highlights "golden thread" that unites nations

A high-level symposium “One Ocean: Regenerating Fish Stocks, Achieving Sustainable Development Goal 14” was held on Wednesday, July 1st, 2015. The symposium was co-sponsored by The Commonwealth of the Bahamas, the Republic of Poland, and the Republic of Palau, and co-organized by the Ocean Sanctuary Alliance, Global Partnerships Forum, and the Institute for Ocean Conservation Science. Other UN Member States in support of the symposium included the Commonwealth of Australia, the State of Israel, the Italian Republic, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the Republic of Maldives, and the Delegation of the European Union.

One Ocean Symposium Aims to Achieve SDG 14

The One Ocean Symposium on July 1 at the United Nations looks to address Sustainable Development Goal 14, which raises concern about ocean responsibility.  Currently 99% of the ocean is open to fishing, although only over 2% of the ocean's surface is protected by a total of 11,000 ocean sanctuaries.  At a recent symposium in March, representatives became determined to raise that percentage to at least 10% within the next 5 years.

One Ocean - Achieving Sustainability through Sanctuaries Symposium

Braving a blizzard, 150 scientists, diplomats, and interested citizens attended a symposium at the United Nations on March 5, One Ocean: Achieving Sustainability through Sanctuaries. They heard a strong call for action by the United Nations from the President Palau, with support from representatives of scores of member-states, ranging from the island states of the Pacific to the European Union.

This week we announced that Stevie Wonder, Kings of Leon, Alicia Keys and John Mayer will headline the second annual Global Citizen Festival, September 28, on the Great Lawn of Central Park in New York. Presented by Cotton On Foundation — which has helped build the best performing schools in Uganda, providing education and long lasting change to those most in need — this year’s Festival is about more than amazing music. It is about working together to end extreme poverty. Today, 1.2 billion people survive on less than the equivalent of US$1.25 a day and are deprived of their basic rights and opportunities. This is unjust, and unacceptable. And while we have reduced the number of people living in extreme poverty by half since 1990, there is still much to do.

China Beauty Charity Fund F4D/FIT Scholarship Benefit Gala

Last year, Yue-Sai Kan launched the China Beauty Charity Fund with the aim of bettering the lives of women and children through education, health and cultural programs. During the fund's first China-based event she managed to raise no less than 2.2 million US dollars. The money was directly invested to support Safety for Mother and Child programs in remote, poor regions of China as well as the Shanghai International Film Festival for five female filmmakers to produce micro movies on women and charity issues.

GPF Hosts GETHealth Summit at the United Nations to Bring Together Top Health and Technology Innovators from Across the Globe

On February 6 and 7, The Global Partnerships Forum, in collaboration with The Johns Hopkins University Center for Clinical Global Education (headed by Dr. Robert C. Bollinger) convened the first ever Global, Education, Technology and Health Summit (GETHealth Summit) at the United Nations in New York City. The summit, which was co-hosted by the Governments of Ethiopia, Norway, Rwanda and Uganda, and the International Telecommunication Union, with the support of the UN Office for Partnerships, as well as a number of key US and international partners. It brought together a global audience of health care providers, researchers, educators, and administrators in the medical industry, as well as leaders in the pharmaceutical, business, philanthropic, and technological fields to generate fresh knowledge, partnerships, and ideas that will more effectively leverage the three IT domains (infrastructure, devices, software) to address the critical health workforce gap.
