Sylvia Bongo Ondimba Foundation participates in the Youth Assembly at the United Nations, hosted by the GPF
A delegation from the Sylvia Bongo Ondimba Foundation travelled to the Youth Assembly at the United Nations in New York this January. Zahra Thioune, who is responsible for the Foundation’s international and public relations, participated in the panel on January 31, 2013: 'MDGS and You - Are we there yet?’
The diverse panel participants shared innovative ideas and concrete examples of work that is being done on the ground to contribute to the MDGs. Zahra spoke about the Foundation’s initiatives as they relate to MDG 6 (combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases), by sharing the success of the youth campaign on HIV/Aids « CAN SANS SIDA » that was held alongside the 2012 African Cup of Nations in Gabon.
Such campaigns for long-term behaviour change can only truly speak to youth if young people are involved in the early stages of conceptualisation and in the delivery of key messages. The Sylvia Bongo Ondimba Foundation plans to build on this experience in the near future, by working closely with young people in Gabon to further address issues that affect their everyday lives.
The Global Partnerships Forum is honored to have the First Lady of Gabon, Madam Sylvia Bongo Ondimba as it Ambassador. For more information on the Foundation's programs, please visit their website: http://www.fondationsylviabongoondimba.org/en
